Varalakshmi Vratam 2024
Varalakshmi festival is a prominent event in portions of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. It falls on Friday during the Shravana (July-August) Shukla Paksha. This year's Varalakshmi Vratam will take place on August 16, 2024. Many married ladies fast on this day to honor Goddess Lakshmi and seek benefits for themselves and their spouses. 'Vara' refers to the boons that Lakshmi bestows on her worshipers.

About Goddess Varalakshmi
Varalakshmi Vratam is a special day to honor the goddess of wealth and prosperity, Varalakshmi. Varalakshmi, Lord Vishnu's consort, is a manifestation of Goddess Mahalakshmi. She is claimed to have come from the milky ocean, known as Kshir Sagar, and is shown as having a milky complexion and clad in similar-colored clothing. Varalakshmi is supposed to offer boons and fulfill all of her devotees' wishes, which is why she is known as Vara + Lakshmi, which translates to 'Goddess Lakshmi who bestows boons'.

How do people celebrate Varalakshmi Vratam?
On Thursday, married women fast from sunrise to dusk and prepare for the puja. On Fridays, believers wake up early to take a head bath soon before daybreak. The house has been cleaned and decorated with rangoli and kalasha. The Kalasha is covered with Chandan (sandalwood) paste and filled with a variety of things that differ by location. The pot is filled with raw rice, coins, turmeric, and leaves, followed by a 'Swastika' emblem. Finally, the Kalasha is embellished with mango leaves and covered in coconut smeared with turmeric.
The pooja begins with worshipping Lord Ganesha, chanting slokas, conducting arati, and presenting sweets to the god. Women give gifts after tying yellow threads across their hands. Boiled beans, pongal, and jaggery-based sweets are distributed. Devotees finish the ceremonies on Saturday and demolish the Kalasha after bathing. Observing Varalakshmi Vratam is said to bring tranquility, prosperity, and financial blessings.

 Importance of Varalakshmi Vratam
Varalakshmi Vratam, also known as Varalakshmi Puja, is an important religious festival in which men and women worship the Goddess Varalakshmi. She is adored as the divine source of wealth, prosperity, courage, wisdom, and fertility. During this Vratam, devotees pray for plentiful blessings for themselves and their families. Participating in the Varalakshmi Puja is thought to be equivalent to adoring all eight different aspects of the Goddess Lakshmi. This ritual is supposed to provide a variety of positive consequences, including:
Dhanam (Monetary Benefits): The practice is said to provide financial prosperity and fortune.
Dhanyam (Abundance of Food and Grains): Devotees anticipate having an abundance of food and grains in their lives.
Arokkyam (Good Health): Seeking blessings for bodily well-being.
Sampath (Wealth and Property): Desiring the accumulation of material things and wealth.
Santhanam (Virtuous Offspring): Hoping for the birth of virtuous and healthy offspring.
Deerka Sumangali Bakkyam (Longevity of Husband): Wishing for an extended life for one's spouse.
